Chili : mon voisin est un tortionnaireChile: Torturers Running Free
The British courts are currently ruling on the Pinochet case. His being placed under house arrest for the past year sent shock waves through Chile. The families of the 3,000 missing persons and human rights organizations have been flushing out former torturers reconverted into patriarchal domesticity. In the 70s, Colonel Moren Brito headed the Villa Grimaldi, one of the principal torture centers of the DINA, the political police. Today, he leads a quiet life in a residential district of Santiago. But his past is catching up on him. At the local market, he was accosted by one of his former victims. In Chile, as elsewhere, the scars do not heal before justice is done.
