Bud Powell, l'exil intérieur

Bebop's finest pianist didn't talk. His strange autistic behavior is believed to be the result of a beating inflicted by Philadelphia police, one night when he'd had too much to drink. He was not even 20. His skull preserved a deep scar and his soul a permanent wound that often took him to psychiatric hospitals. This film is a tribute to this bebop pianist and composer, whose first Blue Note and Verve recordings, which launched him in Europe, have become legendary. This is also the first film about a musician who has influenced generations of pianists, from Horace Silver and Bill Evans to Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Jacky Terrasson, not to mention McCoy Tyner and Keith Jarrett. His friendship with the Frenchman Francis Paudras inspired Bertrand Tavernier's film 'Round Midnight.
