Brad Mehldau
At 29, Brad Mehldau made a sensational entrance into the select circle of jazz greats. Romantic, rocker, leader and loner, he has refused to recognize any hierarchies between classical music and others musical forms. His musical models range from Brahms and Schubert to Radiohead and Nick Drake, not to mention Coltrane, Monk and Led Zeppelin. A great fan of Thomas Mann and William Burroughs, he always checks up on the poetry, books and the streets of the cities where he plays. His music is, first and foremost, a descent into his inner world. In January 1999, the already legendary trio he forms with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy recorded live "The Art of the Trio, Vol. 4, Back at the Vanguard." A few weeks earlier, he had been in Berlin to prepare his first solo album.
