On the Boulevard Haussmann in Paris, the Galeries Lafayette department store is as much a symbol of Paris as the Eiffel Tower and the Champs-Elysées. But the Haussmann store is also the "flagship" of one of France's biggest business groups. The director spent four months filming three young salesgirls, hired on a trial period, as they adapted to the working world of sales. From management meetings to scenes of daily vending, with its attendant joys and sorrows, this documentary series reveals the mechanisms and contradictions of a major business. By following these people, examining their personalities and experiences, we take the pulse of the challenges buffeting our society. These anecdotes and stories are familiar to us, but by giving them our special attention we take a fresh look at a world around us.
