Bat Call

A beam of light penetrates the earth to reveal the presence of a woman who is part of the surroundings, as if she had always lived in the caves. She expresses herself through the sounds she produces by striking stones, a music that passes through her body and echoes through the caves to attract the other subterranean denizens: the bats. This encounter is the starting point for a very special dialogue that creates the possibility of hearing the inaudible — in this case, ultrasonic sounds — and the communicating by analogies. Inspired by the idea of a possible dialogue between ultrasonic sounds emitted by bats (made audible by the use of a special detector) and the sound stones of a musician, the video was shot at a depth of 400 feet, in the Caves of Castallena. This is an artistic experiment within the framework of an interaction between language and disciplines.
