Au nom du FilsIn the Name of the Son
The streets of Jerusalem during the last Easter celebrations before the year 2000. The Christian church expresses its passion through its most faithful followers: for almost 2 000 years now, millions of pilgrims have retraced Christ's Way of the Cross. A site of magic and excess, Jerusalem is for many the place where they can assert their Christian faith. Whether they take themselves for Eli, Jesus, Mary Magdalene, it is in Jerusalem that "Jesus madness" is enacted with the most intensity. The film follows its protagonists in this overheated environment. Each gives free reign to his faith, to his madness; these visionaries stream through the streets of Jerusalem. By telescoping locations, acts and different churches, the film conveys an incessant sense of seething activity. The soundtrack is very rich: chants, bells, cries, tears, the hypnotic rhythm of the didjeridoo enhance the mystical madness of the place.
