Au bout du railAt the End of the Rail
Between 1965 and 1977, a prototype for an entirely new transport vehicle by rail was tested in France. Conceived and developed by engineer Jean Bertin, this exceptional vehicle was much discussed at the time. As much a showcase for French technology as the "France" ocean liner or the Concorde, the Aerotrain seemed destined to greatness. Many commercial development projects were outlined globally. Today, all that remains of this saga is a long concrete rail abandoned somewhere in the countryside around Orléans. What happened to the Aerotrain?
