Anklage : Folkemord
For the first time, an international UN court has convicted a person of genocide and crimes against humanity. We follow the last dramatic stages of the trial against a former mayor in Rwanda, Jean-Paul Akayesu, who is the first to be charged with genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), located in Tanzania. Behind the scenes of the courtroom drama, the three judges from Sweden, South Africa and Tanzania struggle to create new procedures, overcome cultural differences and fight UN bureaucracy. In Rwanda, the survivors of the genocide in the local community impatiently await the outcome of the trial. An importance sentence which will serve as a precedent for the permanent International Criminal Court (ICC).
