Ama
Focusing on a show in preparation, Ama takes us into the world of the vocal arts in the Soule. We discover three of the most remarkable voices in this province of the French Basque Country. The Soule, with a population of less than 14,000, is the poorest of the seven Basque provinces. But its inhabitants make a major effort for their culture. It's not a question of a "museum culture." What is at stake here is a living tradition which annually produces new works, sometimes innovative, always deeply-rooted. Singing is a universal and ancestral art, in all eras and all cultures, most particularly here in the Soule, where its masters have been respected, even venerated. It is a land of shepherds, a place where the mountains and villages have always sung and will always continue to sing.
